What is the HAF camp program?

HAF is a Department for Education (DfE) funded programme aimed at enabling children and young people in receipt of benefits-related free school meals (FSM) to attend school holiday activities and experiences during Easter, Summer and Christmas (January 2024).

In Worcestershire, the county works with over 200 organisations to deliver the programme for families, this includes holiday club providers, workshop providers, supermarkets, suppliers, caterers, community groups, charities and schools.

The programme creates free places for eligible children to attend, with a focus on enriching activities with a healthy meal and snacks included.

Research has shown that the school holidays can be pressure points for some families, leading to a holiday experience gap. Through the HAF programme we are encouraging children that access our out-of-school activities to eat well, get active, have fun and make friends.

Activities:

Our Activity Sports camps are a fantastic opportunity for your child to ‘have a go’! We have designed a program which combines opportunities for children to be introduced to as many sports as possible, including; Football, Basketball, Golf, Hockey and Tennis. We then blend these sports with classic camp games like Dodgeball, Benchball, Gaga and Capture the Flag.

We love to give children the opportunity to design and implement their own games, ideas and activities. Accompanying our physical activity offerings we have many indoor and classroom based activities planned including lego building, arts and crafts, paper plane challenges and board games.

Recent camps have seen an all action games and activities based on Minecraft, the Womens Football World Cup, Halloween dress up and a even wizarding themed Harry Potter dodge ball!

What should children wear?

Our holiday camps are always extremely active and your child will be on the go all day long. We recommend comfortable clothing that is fit for playing sports. We would also recommend comfortable trainers and clothing that they don’t mind getting dirty. Although part of the camp is indoors, we have access to an grass area and playground which will be used frequently if the weather is kind to us.

Snacks and Food

As part of the HAF camps, a hot, nutritious meal will be provided to all children. This hot meal is provided in partnership with Bowfuls who are our partnering catering company.

We will also look to provide healthy snacks throughout the day (fruit) as well as Toast and Fruit for Breakfast.
